I don’t know about you, but I love finding things to put in our kids’ stockings! But also, I don’t want to fill their stockings with junk and little plastic toys that are never going to be looked at again after Christmas.

I try to fill our kids’ stockings with things that they will actually use, or that they need! If you feel the same, and you have an adventurous kid too, check out our list of stocking stuffers for outdoor kids!
Swim Goggles
You may not think of swim gear during the winter if you don’t live somewhere tropical, but it’s such a good idea!

I put goggles in our kids’ stockings last year because I knew that #1 – they would love them, and #2 – they needed them for the following summer!
These Splash goggles have a fabric strap so they’re easy to get on and off, and don’t get tangled up in hair!
Collapsible Water Bottle
This collapsible water bottle went in my son’s stocking last Christmas.

I love that they can be clipped on a backpack, they’re lightweight, and when they’re empty, they don’t take up a ton of space!
CamelBak Stainless Steel Water Bottle

While we are on the topic of water bottles, these CamelBak bottles are one of our faves. Both of my kids have these.
They’re leak-proof (I know- we use them all the time!) and keep drinks cold for a long time.
Although I didn’t put these in my kids’ stockings, they would make a perfect stocking stuffer for outdoor kids!
Head Lamp Beanie
My son loves his headlamp beanie! It’s perfect for exploring caves, or just for use on cooler nights.

We bring ours camping with us in colder weather. I love how it lights him up at night while he’s running around the campground.
Dinosaur or Unicorn Headlamp

Same concept as the beanie headlamp above, but better for warmer days! These are really cute! I haven’t tried these specific ones, but they have good reviews, and I’m considering getting them for this year!
Wool Socks
Socks are always a good stocking stuffer! But wool socks, especially merino wool like these are great stocking stuffers for an outdoor kid!

Wool is the best for keeping feet warm in cold temperatures and wicking away moisture. Wool is also relatively quick-drying.
Sunglasses

Another super useful stocking stuffer for the outdoor kid!
I love that these are flexible, so they aren’t easily broken. They also come in a 3-pack!
Kid’s Binoculars
I might have to get another pair of these for our daughter. We have one pair that was a gift to our son, but both of them love using binoculars on hikes!

I like that these are kid’s binoculars, but not toy binoculars… like, they actually work well!
Outdoor Books
Here are some good options for books for the outdoor kid!

- Sticks and Stones: a Kid’s Guide to Building and Exploring in the Great Outdoors (age 3+)
- The Campground Kids Series (age 7+)
- 50 Things to Do Before You’re 11 3/4 (age 8+)
- Ultimate Survival Guide for Kids (age 8+)
- Some Bugs Board Book (age 0+)
Scavenger Hunt Card Game
This looks so fun! I have this on my Amazon list, and it’s probably going to be added to the cart!

Toddler Scavenger Hunt Cards

Scavenger hunt cards for toddlers! How cute are these? I like to print out little scavenger hunt bingo cards for our kids, but these would be so much better to throw in a hiking bag! No getting crumpled up!
Bike Lights

These bike lights went in my son’s stocking last year. I love the safety of having his bike all lit up, so he’s visible to cars! And kids just think they’re fun!
Sand Toys
A useful stocking stuffer for the outdoor kid! I especially love this set because they’re silicone. They won’t break like plastic sand toys! Not to mention, they’re so cute!

Gloves or Mittens
I’ve definitely put gloves and mittens in my kids’ stockings multiple times. It’s something they’re going to really need! We have soft gloves for cold days, and waterproof ones for snow days.

Sidewalk Chalk
A classic. Can’t ever go wrong with the sidewalk chalk! Especially fun when they’re made into cute shapes like these rainbows from Yoobi!

If you have a little one who likes to put things in their mouth, this non-toxic sidewalk chalk might be for you!
Bubbles

Another classic. I can’t tell you how many bubbles this family goes through. This set comes in a 2-pack and is a great size for a stocking!
Adventure Themed Stickers

Our whole family is obsessed with stickers. We get a sticker for every place we visit to put on our “Wander Wagon”.
You can also put them on water bottles, computers, and hard-sided suitcases! This set comes with 50 stickers!
Magnifying Glass
This one might be going in one of our kids’ stockings this year. We used to have one, and it got all scratched up.
I like that this magnifying glass is made of wood instead of plastic!

Knot-Tying Game
Ok. This is perfect for the adventurous, outdoor kid’s stocking stuffer! What a fun and useful gift! This set has easy-to-follow picture guides.

I hope you found something on this list that will be perfect for your own little adventurer!
